Status Update on Current Disputes
Updated attendees of the status of the legal actions filed against the City.
Assurance was given that AFSCME is fully backing PAGE in these disputes.
New Membership Interest
An employee in Traffic has expressed interest in becoming a member of PAGE.
New Employee Orientation (NEO)
NEO on October 11, 2024: Two members volunteered and will officiate the orientation.
Contract Committee Formation
A motion was made to form a committee to review and rework sections of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Stewards List Update
The union needs to update the Stewards list to ensure accuracy and current representation.
Pay Increase Discussion
A proposal was made to negotiate a 7% pay increase, commiserate with what Fire and Police are receiving.
A member questioned how the speaker knew this information. Member informed attendees he has been in contact with members of those unions and received confirmation.
Proposal: PAGE will negotiate a three-year contract with more than the 2.34% base pay increase the City has proposed the last few years.
Health Insurance Concerns
It was brought to the meetings attention and raised concerns that under the City's new health insurance plan Civil Service employees appear to be paying more for deductibles, monthly fees, and co-pays, than other departments. Further investigation is needed to confirm this and understand the reasons behind it.
Vacation and Time-Off Issue
A Community Service Officer (CSO) raised concerns about issues with the Police Department regarding vacation time, personal time, and required notification for taking days off.
- Officers in attendance requested she provide the details in an email to the Union for further review.
Council 76 Reopening
Members were informed that Council 76 will reopen as Council 976 on November 1, 2024.
This change is expected to better support the Union since membership dues will remain in Colorado.
James and Meagan from AFSCME will assist with setting up Council 976.
NEO Event Dates
Several members requested that the dates for NEO be added to the union’s website calendar. Note: Dates have been added to the calendar.
Union Involvement in City Events
Interest was expressed about whether the union could participate in recruiting at the Health Fair on October 16, 2024.
The union agreed to look into getting more involved in City events and increasing visibility.
Encouraging Union Participation
A trustee took the floor and encouraged everyone to speak with union members and urge them to get more involved in the Union.
Logo Development
A member volunteered to work on designing a new logo for PAGE.
Scheduling Concerns
An attendee asked about implementing 10-hour workdays for some employees in Housing.
Presiding member explained that the City has already addressed this, and it’s simply a matter of organizing the scheduling for those interested in a 4-day workweek.
This has been negotiated between the Union and the City and covered in an MoU.
Ideas to Increase Meeting Attendance
A member mentioned that the Police Department offered pizza and other perks to boost meeting attendance.
Discussion followed about potentially holding two or three special meetings per year to encourage more member participation.
AFSCME Dues Discussion
It was suggested that the union should negotiate for reduced AFSCME fees to retain more dues money within the local community.
Motion to Adjourn: Troy motioned to adjourn the meeting.
